Eat Your Way To Radiant Skin
You are what you eat – if you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know that this is my mantra. But can perfect pores and a completely flawless complexion really be achieved by watching what you eat? Actually, yes – absolutely it can, but there’s a catch (isn’t there always?). You see, skin is rather a complex organ. It demands nutrients and natural resources if it is to appear perfectly radiant. The good news is that food-fuelled beautiful skin is simply a matter of consuming the right amounts, of the right things.
Indulge in energy-giving, skin-firming complete protein foods
Complete protein foods such as fish, shellfish, grass-fed beef and organic eggs help firm and tone your body’s lean tissue, including hair, skin and nails. As an added bonus, they also help you feel sprightly, full of energy and fuller for longer (always helpful for those on a weightloss regime).
Introduce healthy fats for skin that stays supple and hydrated
Not all fats are created equal – and in fact, so called ‘healthy fats’ could rightly be considered as an elixir of youth. I’m talking about those that are packed into avocados, extra virgin olive oil, nuts and seeds, each of which keep your skin supple, hydrated and elasticated – all key essentials for beautiful skin.
Get your daily dose of vitamin C – for a firm foundation for healthy skin
Your skin loves vitamin C, or more specifically, the antioxidant properties of vitamin C. This nutrient is critical in helping your body produce collagen (you know… the substance that keeps your skin bouncy and you fresh-faced).
However you probably associate vitamin C with oranges – and you’d of course be right, but strawberries, pineapple, bell peppers and Brussel sprouts each actually have more Vitamin C in per serving, than the average orange.
Get to grips with B complex vitamins – An almighty collective of vitamins for beauty
B complex vitamins are actually a group of vitamins, including: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, biotin, choline and inositol. They can be found in liver, dried beans and other legumes, as well as orange juice and fortified bread, rice, and cereals.
A lot of chronic skin problems can be caused by a vitamin B deficiency, however asides from addressing problems such as acne, B complex vitamins are somewhat of a wonder resource when it comes to overcoming dull, tired and grumpy looking skin. Adding a further string to their bow, is the fact that a pivotal study back in 2003 unequivocally linked B complex vitamins with anti-aging. If all of that weren’t enough, B complex vitamins also bring about beautiful hair and strong nails.
Get your fill of lean absorbable casein protein (because you quite literally are what you eat)
Your skin, or rather the collagen of your skin, is made up of fibrous protein – and in turn this fibrous protein must be fed with lean absorbable casein protein (which you can find in specific casein protein drinks, milk, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt).
Complete your radiant beauty program with the right supplements
Completing the line-up for my radiant beauty program are two essentials of my own health and wellness routine – I swear by these not just for glowing skin, but for plenty more besides. Here’s a superfast overview of each (check out the individual pages for the full rundown).
Profemme Protein Drink
This protein drink is a straightforward introduction for your diet – a simple accompaniment with a main meal. The firming effect of Profemme‘s pure casein protein works wonders for the skin, hair and nails, as well as providing half of your RDA for skin-loving vitamin-C and vitamin-B plus various nutrients to specifically required by women.
A favourite with models and figure athletes, the Profemme Protein Drink isn’t only great for the skin, but is also an exceptional low fat, low GI source of protein (helping you in your weight loss or weight maintenance efforts).
Radiance C could have no more appropriate a name – this is a glow that works from the inside, out – in a bottle. To provide for a little science, this supplement is an antioxidant, making it a critical helper for eradicating those modern day nasties that work their way into the skin (such as chemicals, pollution and unhealthy problem oils from the foods that we eat). It’s packed full of Vitamin C – providing your daily dose in one shot – for optimal collagen production, protecting the skin, keeping it smooth and wrinkle free.
